In some cases, a portal wash may be the best option. This especially for buses with sloping fronts, which require the use of a roof brush. Portal washes are also beneficial when the buses are not washed regularly and therefore need a deeper cleaning, possibly complemented by manual detail wash.
A portal wash can also be completed with a drive-through program if desired, which provides maximum flexibility. Less water, less electricity and fewer chemicals
The vehicle is driven into the wash bay and stop at a red signal. The driver gets out of the vehicle and goes to the control panel to select the desired wash function and the machine starts the wash process. If the front of the vehicle is not sloped, it is washed with overlapping side brushes. If the bus have a sloping front the roof brush is used instead.
When the front is cleaned, the built-in mirror protection program ensures that the brushes pass the rear-view mirrors before the side brushes start washing the sides of the vehicle. The machine then proceeds to wash the sides of the vehicle, finishing with the stern, which is cleaned with overlapping side brushes to avoid dirty streaks.
Finally, the vehicle is rinsed with fresh water mixed with run-off agent to prevent stains and streaks after drying. When the wash and rinsing are finished, the machine returns to its starting position, a green signal is given and the driver can leave the wash bay.
A portal wash from Westmatic can also be used for drive-through washing with a specially adapted washing program. The machine is then parked in a fixed position and the vehicle is driven through the wash, similar to a drive-through machine.
The concept of portal washing, the wash system can be designed in different ways depending on the current needs. When building a completely new wash bay, there is wide range of possibilities to make it optimized and to adopt to an existing building.
