Our history
The '70s:
The pioneer period
A strong conviction becomes a business
Everything starts in 1974 from the drive to develop solutions for an industry with many challenges but also opportunities. Entrepreneur Jan Sundell is passionate from the start for what will become Westmatic's signature; sustainable integrity and efficiency. The strength of being able to add an environmentally friendly dimension to fantastic washing results, reliability and other purely functional properties.
The following year, 1975, the first water recycling EMÅ-300 is manufactured and another year later, in 1976, a waste bin washer is built in collaboration with Electrolux in Copenhagen.
At the beginning of the decade, the very first Westmatic machine, which is delivered to Scania Hovsjö, premieres.
In 1984 Westmatic AB is formed and the name is manifested the first truck wash with the name Westmatic No 1 which is delivered to Scania in Södertälje. No 2 is installed the year after 1985 at Ljungby Lastbilstvätt. A brand within its segments takes place.
In 1988, the first hydraulic 4-brush machine is installed.

Times of innovation
New factory, new opportunities
1990 begins with the construction of a new modern facility in the Falleberg area, which opens up new opportunities.
The cleaner is developed and patented in 1994. The innovation is awarded the Development Fund in Värmland's Creation Prize and scholarship during a ceremony at the Technical Fair in Stockholm. As a clear example of our efficiency, a large train washing facility is designed, built and delivered within four weeks to Aarhus in Denmark in 1995.
Westmatic takes operational reliability and efficiency to the next level in 1996 by launching WASH and WASH CONTROL.
International interest grows and in 1998 the first order comes from Sarnia in Canada. The year after 1999, the first train wash and machine are delivered to North America.
In 2003, Jan Sundell was named Entrepreneur of the Year in Arvika. In the same year, a complete laundry hall was delivered to Infantry Regiment I5 in Östersund.
The group grows and in 2005 Westmatic Group is founded at the same time as Westmatic Corporation Ltd is formed.
On the business side, many positive things are happening, such as a large order for train washing from VR Finnish Railways in 2006 and a new production facility being built in Cheektowaga, Buffalo in 2009.

Internationalization

Interest is growing worldwide
Innovation and product development continue unabated and in 2011 the first hybrid machine is delivered to Try-it Beverage Distributing.
Westmatic is becoming an increasingly clear player internationally and is recognized by receiving The International Transport Awards' prestigious award, The Golden Chariot, in 2012.
Other visible results are how the trains for the Winter Olympics in Sochi 2014 shine thanks to Westmatic's large train washing facility. In the West, Westmatic is exposed on a large screen in Times Square in New York in 2016. The year before 2015, seven machines are delivered to Marta, Atlanta, USA. 2017 takes current
CEO Per Andersson at the helm and in 2018 will open a sales and service office in Los Angeles. An important milestone in the same year is also the launch of Viking.
Westmatic continues to grow on several continents and in 2020, Westmatic opens an office in Adelaide, Australia and the following year, in 2021, a new factory is inaugurated in Buffalo, USA. The successes arouse interest and in 2022 the Lagercrantz Group buys Westmatic.
Time flies when you're having a good time and in 2024 Westmatic turns 50! We can sum up a fantastic first half-century, but our aim is, as always, constantly forward. To continue to develop sustainable and clean results.
